the national average).
Positive increase in 6 municipalities in the region, 5
of them in Varna district mainly along the Black sea coast.
Decrease in population in 43 municipalities .
Increase in population (-4.5 %) i.e. negative, lower than
the national average.
Mechanic increase in population for the region (in-bound
migration). Its value is lower than the national average.
Density of population for the region (64.5 people per square
km-below the national average).36% of the population in the region reside
in Varna district.
Gender structure - the following ratio is observed: 100
men/ 104 women, the national average is 106 .
Age structure - decrease the number of people aged under
15;increase in the number of people over 65. The category aged between 15
and 65 years is constantly decreasing as a total number, but the population
of the category is increasing relatively compared with the whole number
of population of the region. The ratio of all 3 above mentioned age categories
is as follows:15.2:69.6:15.2% while the national average is 14.2:68.7:17.1%.
Educational structure of population:
The share of inhabitants with university education in NEPR is 7.62%.There
are internal disparities in terms of the educational structure within the
region. Varna district ranks first among the districts in terms of people
with university education.
Ethnic groups:
Bulgarian ethnos predominates in the region as a whole (69.2% of the population).
The population of the Turkish ethnic group represents 22.8% of the total
and the Roma population accounts for 5.8%.
Religious structure:
69% of the population are Christians, 27.2% are Muslims

Share of 15 year-old pupils attending one of the following forms of education
(formal, informal, self-education) -18.2%.

people with professional education.
Health care - number of hospitals and policlinics - 39,
14 of them are in Varna district. Availability of hospital beds per 100
people-51 beds. Provision with doctors per 1000 people-3.3 (the national
average is 3.6)
